Version 14.19
Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances (EPCS)
Federal law passed in 2010 has allowed physicians to prescribe Schedule II through Schedule V controlled substances electronically. Since the passing of this law all 50 states and the District of Columbia have moved to allow for EPCS. The one exception is that Kansas and Vermont allow for EPCS of Schedule III-V but not Schedule II controlled substances. The I-STOP Act in New York State requires all providers to prescribe all drugs that require a prescription including controlled substances electronically starting March 27, 2016.
Office Practicum offers EPCS to all clients where it is allowed by law.
