Diagnostic Test and Result Setup

Version 14.19

In this section, you will be guided through the process to link in house diagnostic test results to diagnostic test orders.

Accessing the HL7 Diagnostic Test Utilities

  1. Navigate to Clinical tab > More button (Customize group) > Diagnostic Tests.
  2. Click the Test Name Definitions tab.
  3. Click the In House line to expand the list of in house test.

Reviewing and Editing the Existing Result

  1. Click the Access buttonto open the Diagnostic Test Name Information window.

  1. Ensure that Result Only is selected from the Purpose drop-down menu.
  2. Ensure that Screen is selected from the Category drop-down menu.


  1. Ensure that the Result type is Numeric.
  2. Review and edit the Default result values:
  • the first answer in the list is the default : 20/20.
  • to create a drop-down list of options, separate choices by a semicolon (;).
  • type =N after the result answer to indicate a normal value; this will result in a green background line result.
  • type =A after the result answer to indicate an abnormal value; this will result in a red background line result.
  1. Click the OK button to save your work.

Reviewing and Editing the Existing Lab and Linking the Existing Result

  1. Click the Access button to open the Diagnostic Test Name Information window.
  2. Ensure that Order or Result is selected from the Purpose drop-down menu.
Purpose set to Order or Result: This allows you to enter a higher level result for this test
  • can result the components and then indicate the overall result impression.
  1. Ensure that Screen is selected from the Category drop-down menu.
  2. Ensure String is selected from the Result Type drop-down menu.

  1. Click the Result Template tab.
  2. Click the Add  button.
  3. Select OD - the desired result from the Drop-Down Menu.
  • Repeat this step to add all of the desired result options.
  • The sort order can be changed by just changing the number.
  1. Click the OK button to save your work.

  • This will make the results available to add to the Result Template for the Test
