Maximized Data Elements

Path: Tools > Reporting

The following options are available when an element is maximized:

  • The Properties menu is on the left. You can click the Format tab  to open it.
  • The Visualization is displayed on the work area with its Data table below it. All changes made in the Properties or Format tabs are shown in the Visualization area.

Properties

You can perform the following operations from the Properties menu:

  • Change the visualization type by clicking the Visualization dropdown, this changes the visualization controls as follows:
    • Bar:
      • Bar orientation: Choose between horizontal or vertical.
      • Bar Stacking : Choose between not stacked, stacked, or stacked to 100%.
      • X-AXIS: Select which columns to display as the bars on the X axis and indicate whether to aggregate the values.
      • Y-AXIS: Select which columns to display as the bars on the Y axis and indicate whether to aggregate the values.

    • Line:
      • X-AXIS: Select which columns to display as the bars on the X axis and indicate whether to aggregate the values.
      • Y-AXIS: Select which columns to display as the bars on the Y axis and indicate whether to aggregate the values.

    • KPI:
      • Value: Select which column to display as the KPI value and indicate whether to aggregate the values.
      • Timeline: Select which date column to display as a timeline. Adding a timeline changes the visualization to a line graph. Aggregating the values is highly recommended.
      • Comparison: Select which column to display as the comparison for the KPI.

    • Area:
      • Area Stacking : Choose between not stacked, stacked, or stacked to 100%.
      • X-AXIS: Select which columns to display as the bars on the X axis and indicate whether to aggregate the values.
      • Y-AXIS: Select which columns to display as the bars on the Y axis and indicate whether to aggregate the values.

    • Scatter:
      • X-AXIS: Select which columns to display as the bars on the X axis and indicate whether to aggregate the values.
      • Y-AXIS: Select which columns to display as the bars on the Y axis and indicate whether to aggregate the values.

    • Combo:
      • Bar Stacking : Choose between not stacked or stacked.
      • X-AXIS: Choose the information displayed on the X axis and indicate whether to aggregate the values.
      • Y-AXIS: Choose the information displayed on the Y axis and indicate whether to aggregate the values.

    • Box:
      • X-AXIS: Choose the information displayed on the X axis and indicate whether to aggregate the values.
      • Y-AXIS: Choose the information displayed on the Y axis and indicate whether to aggregate the values.
      • SPLIT BY: Choose the second grouping of information displayed on the X axis, if any.

    • Pie and Donut:
      • COLOR: Choose the information displayed on the diagram and choose the color scheme for the chart.
      • VALUE: Choose the value to measure the width of each section. Values are aggregated by default.

    • Sankey:
      • STAGES: Select which columns to display as the stages on the left of the diagram.
      • VALUE: Select which column to quantify the stages.

    • Funnel:
      • STAGES: Select which columns to display as the stages on the diagram.
      • VALUE: Select which column to quantify the stages and indicate whether to aggregate the values.

    • Gauge:
      • VALUE: Select which columns to display as the gauge value.
      • MINIMUM: Select which columns to display as the gauge minimum.
      • MAXIMUM: Select which columns to display as the gauge maximum.
      • TARGET:Select which columns to display as the gauge target.

  • Change the visualization style of the marks under Marks. The options include colors, tooltips, grids. Further customization can be found under the Format tab  at the top of the Properties menu.
  • Change column settings under the Columns tab. These operations will be explained using the table under the element visualization in the next section because they are mostly the same.

Visualization

The visualization area is the main area of your screen when you maximize an element. This area is divided into two parts:

  • Element visualization: This visualization automatically shows any changes made on the Properties and Format tabs.
  • Element data table: This table shows the data that feeds the element. You can perform the following operations on the table:
    • Reorder columns: Drag and drop columns on the table to rearrange them horizontally.
    • Collapse or expand groups: On tables with groupings, you can click the - button on each cell to collapse the grouping and the + button to expand it. To collapse or expand the entire column, click the - or + button respectively on the column header.
    • Click the caret button to access the following operations:
      • Show on tooltip: For visualized columns only. Indicates whether the element shows a tooltip when the mouse hovers over it.
      • AXIS/STAGE/VALUE: For visualized columns only. Indicates the part of the element where the column is visualized. We recommend you to manage the visualization on the Properties tab.
      • Sort Columns: Switches the sorting to  Ascending Descending  or Custom by clicking the Gear  icon and entering the following information:
        • Column name: Select the column to sort by.
        • Sort order: Choose between A to Z or Z to A.
        • Nulls: Choose where to sort the empty values.
      • Filter: Opens the Filter panel.
      • Add a new column: Creates a new column to the right.
      • Add column via:
        • Lookup: Creates a new column to the right using a lookup.
        • Period over period comparison: Creates a comparison column with a different column using a date column as timeline.
      • Duplicate column: Creates a copy of the column.
      • Rename column: Changes the name of the column. You can also rename columns by double-clicking their header.
      • Set description: Add a description for documentation purposes.
      • Hide column: Hides the column. You can still find it in the column tab under properties, hidden columns have a lighter gray color and can be unhidden by clicking the caret and selecting Unhide column.
      • Delete column: Deletes the column.
      • Freeze up to column: Freezes the column and all columns to the left.
      • Unfreeze column: Unfreezes the column.
      • Move to: Moves the column to either:
        • Start: The first column to the left after the grouping or frozen columns.
        • End: The last column to the right.
      • Column details: Shows a series of stats of the column including its type, percentage of empty and non-empty values, distinct values as well as its minimum and maximum values.
      • Truncate date: For date columns only. Removes a part from a date, leaving up to the:
        • Year
        • Month
        • Day
        • Hour
        • Minute
        • Second
      • Transform: Changes the type of the column.
      • Format: Changes the format of the column. For example adding or removing decimal positions.
