We are currently updating the OP Help Center content for the release of OP 14.19 or OP 19. OP 19 is a member of the certified OP 14 family of products (official version is 14.19.1), which you may see in your software (such as in Help > About) and in the Help Center tabs labeled 14.19. You may also notice that the version number in content and videos may not match the version of your software, and some procedural content may not match the workflow in your software. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make these enhancements.

OP Patient Portal Patient Registration Methods

The content in this article is relevant to the OP Patient Portal, powered by InteliChart.

Overview

There are several ways to generate a PIN for the OP Patient Portal both from within OP and from the OP Practice Portal. Below you will find instructions for each method and the implications that follow. Your practice will determine that method that best suits your practice's workflow.

Generate a PIN from Within OP

PIN generation from OP occurs in either the Family Contacts section of the patient chart or from the Appointment window. For information on the complete process of initiating registration by generating a PIN from OP, click here. When a PIN is generated from within OP, the parent will use that PIN to self-register for the OP Patient Portal. Information of how the parent should self-register can be found in the OP Patient Portal: Parent Experience QRG in the section titled Self-Registering on the Patient Portal

  • Once a PIN is generated from OP, there is no "authentication" that needs to be done on the practice's part. By generating a PIN, the practice is authenticating that the individual they are giving the PIN to is authorized to create a portal account for that patient.
  • Once the PIN is generated from OP, the patient's status in the OP Practice Portal will remain Pending until the PIN is entered during the parent's self-registration. The patient's status will then be updated to Registered.

Register a Patient from the Appointment List in the OP Practice Portal

PIN generation can also be done from the Appointment List on the Dashboard of the OP Practice Portal. For information on the complete process of initiating registration by generating a PIN from the Appointment List, click here. When a PIN is generated by clicking the Register button from the Appointment List, a welcome communication is sent to the parent at the email address or cell phone number entered. The welcome communication contains the URL for the portal as well as the PIN. Information on how the parent should complete the portal registration can be found in the OP Patient Portal: Parent Experience QRG in the section titled Completing the Patient Portal Registration.

Register a Patient from Patient Administration in the OP Practice Portal

PIN generation can also be done from the Patient Administration section of the OP Practice Portal. For more information on the complete process of initiating registration by generating a PIN from Patient Administration, see the section titled Registering a Patient from Patient Administration from the Daily Activities section of the OP Practice Portal: Activities QRG.

Self-Registration from the OP Patient Portal (Without a PIN)

If a parent/guardian has self-registered for the OP Patient Portal without a PIN, that registration needs to be authenticated by the practice. Self-registration, in this context, means that the parent has navigated to the practice's portal URL and selected to Create an Account. They completed the registration without a PIN and will not see patient information until the practice authenticates the request.

  • These self-registrations can be viewed from the Statistics section of the Dashboard in the OP Practice Portal.
  • Steps to authenticate the self-registration can be found in the OP Practice Portal: Activities QRG in the Daily Activities section, under the heading Reconciling Self Registration Request from the Dashboard. If these steps are not followed, and rather a PIN is generated for the patient, a duplicate account is created in InteliChart. For information on how to disable a duplicate account, click here.
  • Once the practice authenticates the self-registration, the patient's information is made available for the parent/guardian to access in the OP Patient Portal.
