About Prescription Writer

Path: Clinical, Practice Management, or Billing tab > Patient Chart button > Medications > New or Edit button
Path: Clinical, Practice Management, or Billing tab > Patient Chart button > Encounter or Well Visit > New or Open Note button > Medications > New or Edit button

The Prescription Writer creates prescriptions, links a pharmacy to the prescription, adds notes to prescriptions, adds a medication to the medication favorites list, and provides an outcome status note.

Prescription tabThe Prescription tab creates the prescription. The prescription information includes fields for diagnoses, drug name, dosing information, days supply, refills, start and end dates, and indicators to dispense as written and to include in chronic medication listing.

Notes/Visibility tabThe Notes/Visibility tab is used to set visibility on the medication, and houses pharmacist and patient notes for the medication. Each note field features dynamic character counts.

Status tabThe Status tab indicates the prescription outcome, lists any warnings, sets any overrides, and displays the status of the prescription as well as the pharmacy information.

Links buttonThe Links button opens the Links window which is used to access websites and link PDF files.

Add to Favorites buttonThe Add to Favorites button opens the Medication Favorite Information window and adds the medication to the medication favorite list.

Continue, Print, Save and Cancel buttons
  • Continue: sends the prescription to the pharmacy electronically. Is greyed out until a pharmacy is selected.
  • Print: saves the prescription changes and prints the prescription form
  • Save: saves the prescription changes
  • Cancel: closes the Prescription Writer window without saving any changes
