Version 20.10
About
The Tracked Time is displayed alongside the MDM calculation in the Coding section of the Encounter Note, giving you the opportunity to decide which coding method you will use for the Encounter. The categories of tracked-time are presented with their respective minutes/seconds breakdown according to your practice's global setting. They are added up and displayed as Total Time, which is also used to determine the CPT code suggestion. To learn how to code and finalize your Encounter Note, click here.
Per CMS, the E/M Codes used for Time-Tracked visits are as follows:
Established Patients
Codes are based on total time spent on the date of the Encounter.
99212 | 99213 | 99214 | 99215 |
10-19 minutes | 20-29 minutes | 30-39 minutes | 40-54 minutes |
For services 55 minutes or longer, refer to the Prolonged Services codes.
New Patients
Codes are based on total time spent on the date of the Encounter.
99202 | 99203 | 99204 | 99205 |
15-29 minutes | 30-44 minutes | 45-59 minutes | 60-74 minutes |
99201 has been deleted. If you are spending less than 15 minutes with a new patient, we recommend using MDM-based E/M Coding.
For services 75 minutes or longer, refer to the Prolonged Services codes.
